Discussing Gun Ownership with Patients

  1. Physician Dispensing Solutions says

I do not think it would hurt to talk with patients about gun ownership, but I do not feel that’s something the doctor should be responsible for inquiring.

Guns and health care are separate issues and where do you draw the line? Should doctors be talking about rock climbing, skydiving or reckless driving next? Seems more like an insurance agent or a police safety issue than a doctor / patient topic.

Healthcare professionals are already health to a high standard of responsibility that I do not feel it’s necessary to incorporate a conversation about firearms in the home.
