Thank Your Doctor for National Doctors’ Day

Thank a doctor, doctors day, national doctors day“If it wasn’t for my doctor I don’t know where I’d be.”  Powerful words that we’ve all heard uttered over the years from our friends, neighbors, and family.  Wouldn’t it be great if the doctors who have helped us knew how much we appreciated them?

March 30th is Doctors’ Day.  At Sermo, we see the passion and commitment physicians have for the care of their patients every day.  They miss soccer games to deliver our babies, arrive late to anniversary dinners after removing an appendix, skip meals so they can see more patients, they stay late and leave early to make sure a child with cancer is comfortable…and they do it for the love of medicine and their patients (YOU)!

Your doctor may have provided you with a heroic life-saving act,  taken care of three generations of your family, or supported you with a kind word and sympathetic touch when you needed it most.  Help us thank physicians everywhere by sharing your story and saying “thank you” publicly for all their amazing work.  We want to hear your story.

How to thank your doctor:  There are two ways you can thank your doctor.

1.  The first option is to leave a “thank you” comment below about how a doctor has helped you or a loved one.

or

2.  You can make a thank you YouTube video to share your story.  If you make a video it should:

  • include “DocsDay” in the title and
  • be tweeted @Sermo with the video link and the hashtag #DocsDay

We’ll be sending out “thank yous” too!

In addition to compiling your submissions into one giant “thank you” video for physicians everywhere, we’ll be sending prizes  for stories that move us.  If your story is chosen, you and your doctor will receive a prizes.  Patients will receive a $10 iTunes gift card to their physician will get a thank you package of goodies.

You can follow along with some of the amazing stories by checking back here or by watching the #DocsDay hashtag on Twitter.  Don’t forget to come back on National Doctors’ Day, March 30th, for the final “Thank You” video!

We look forward to seeing your stories.  Below is our video explaining the contest on YouTube, with Christian Rubio, community director and a sample Thank You video from Lisa Johnson, content manager.

Thank you Dr Akhtar, for taking such great care of my dad over the last two years. My dad was rushed to the hospital the day after Christmas 2 years ago and diagnosed with Endocarditis. After EXTREMEMLY fast action by the entire WakeMed ER team and continued care in the ICU, Dr Akhtar has led the charge in treating my dad’s heart condition. Thank you, Dr Akhtar, and the entire WakeMed team, for saving my dad’s life.

I would like to thank Dr. Robert Yood of Reliant Medical in Worcester. He has been my Rheumatologist for 25+ years. His gentle caring nature and no nonsense advice has made me able to live with fibromyalgia and raise my daughters, go to work every day and have a good quality of life. Thank you Dr. Yood. I hope you never retire!

Thank you is not enough for Dr. Nizar Chahin, a neurologist at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC. In June of 2013, I was seen by him & hospitalized for IVIG infusions. My diagnosis is CIDP, a disease I had never heard of before. I was so weak I couldn’t stand from a sitting position, couldn’t step down into my living room & couldn’t use my hands. After a couple of IVIG treatmens (I had 4 in the hospital) I was feeling much better. I have been having infusions in the infusion center since then & just spent last weekend in the hospital for more. I know without a shadow of doubt that I am alive now only through God’s love & care & the care & concern of Dr Chahin. Thank you.

I’d like to thank Dr. Saud Sadiq, my MS neurologist here in New York City. Not only is he an outstanding clinical physician, but he also leads a cutting edge research group, and, above all, is a first-class human being who cares deeply about his patients. Despite treating a patient population who suffer from a so far incurable disease, Dr. Sadiq manages to inspire hope despite the hardships. His clinic is run like none I’ve ever experienced, filled with caring people who exude genuine warmth. Every phone call is returned that day, the staff social workers and physical therapists provide invaluable services, and he even has a naturopath as part of the crew. On top of all that, no pharmaceutical representatives are allowed in the offices, and Dr. Sadiq’s clinic, the Tisch MS Center, is one of the few medical offices in which you’ll find no drug name emblazoned pens, posters, Post-it notes, or other such paraphernalia. Dr. Sadiq is truly blazing his own path, hopefully towards a cure for MS.

I’d also like to thank Dr. Wiley Hembree, my recently retired endocrinologist. Dr. Hembree is above all a gentleman, erudite in every sense of the word. He was very much a Dr. of the “old school”, possessing an inquisitiveness and deep concern for his patients that seems to be increasingly lost among too many of today’s younger breed of physicians. Dr. Hembree always put his patients humanity among all else, and I will truly miss his gentle way of doctoring.

I would like to thank Dr. Wojciech Bulczynski and the entire staff at Newton Wellesley Orthopedic Associates for their expert treatment of a ruptured disc in my lower spine. The entire process was as helpful and “painless” as possible, from first appointment, to surgery, and with follow-up visits! I definitely don’t recommend back injury, but should it happen, I highly recommend this practice, and Dr. Bulczynski in particular.
